Westworld Season 4 Episode 1 was a phenomenal kickoff to the new season after a long hiatus. Some fans weren’t even sure the show was returning! Every detail was painstakingly curated, including the S4E1 ending song. Learn more about the cover of “Video Games,” who performed it, and more below.

Lana Del Rey’s ‘Video Games’ Was Performed by Ramin Djawadi

The S4E1 ending song was “Video Games” by Lana Del Rey. However, this version was performed by Ramin Djawadi.

You can hear it in the embedded video below.

Here’s the original version by Lana Del Rey:

The Ending Song’s Meaning

The lyrics for “Video Games” reveal more about why this song was chosen.

The chorus in the lyrics reads:

It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you wanna do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?

It’s better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
And, baby, now you do

These lyrics make me think about Teddy’s arrival at the end of the episode and how it corresponds to one of the theories about Christina and who she is. (You can read all the major fan theories here.) One of the theories supposes that we are seeing Dolores’ version of heaven, where she and Teddy will have a love story again, but this time it will end happily.

Not everyone loved the ending song quite as much as I did. One person on Reddit wrote, “A little too on the nose pointing to her being in a video game.”

But others loved it. One person wrote, “The final scene was beautiful with song in the background and I don’t even care for Dolores and Teddy relationship, but it was a such touching moment.”

But it seemed perfect, since she was writing her ideal love story as the song played about “heaven is a place on earth with you.” I can’t help but think that Dolores/Christina is trapped again, and Teddy is here to save her. It was likely Teddy who beat up Peter when he tried to attack Christina, and it looks like he’s going to continue watching over her and protecting her, just like before.

All in all, Season 4 Episode 1 was a phenomenal kickoff for the new season, and the beautiful song at the end was icing on the cake. It was the perfect way to close out the new episode, and brought the show back full circle to when Dolores and Teddy’s love story was one of the central plots. After not seeing Teddy for a long time, seeing him return was like getting a nostalgic taste of home. With so many callbacks to previous seasons packed into one episode, it looks like we’re in for quite a ride.
