The parents of Alicia Witt were found dead Monday night in their Massachusetts home after the star hadn’t heard from the couple in several days.

Robert Witt, 87, and his wife Diane, 75, were discovered when a relative checked in with the elderly couple at daughter Alicia’s request. “I reached out to a cousin who lives close to my parents to check on them. Sadly, the outcome was unimaginable,” Witt wrote in a statement. “I ask for some privacy at this time to grieve and to wrap my head around this turn of events, and this surreal loss.”

Alicia Witt is a singer, songwriter, author, and actress who currently lives in East Nashville, Tennessee. She played the role of Paula on The Walking Dead and made her acting debut as a 7-year-old Alia Atreides in David Lynch’s Dune (1984). She’s also had major roles on Twin Peaks, Orange is the New Black, and Nashville.

She also just released a new album this fall called The Conduit and a diet/nutrition book called Small Changes: A Rules-Free Guide to Add More Plant-Based Foods, Peace and Power to Your Life.

The circumstances surrounding the Witts’ deaths remain a mystery as police say there is no sign of foul play or trauma. There were reports that the couple was having trouble with their furnace and were using a space heater to keep warm, but there’s no evidence yet of that being a cause of death. An autopsy is scheduled for both of the deceased.

Worcester Fire Deputy Chief Adam Roche did comment on the possibility of carbon monoxide in the home, but concluded that there was none present.

Our hearts go out to Alicia and the entire Witt family during this tragic time.
