Preppers know that when the SHTF, it’s important to have a bug out plan. For those who are unfamiliar with the term, “bugging out” is what you do when you have to leave your home in a hurry due to an impending disaster. Bugging out can be prompted by anything from a natural disaster to a complete societal collapse. But what’s just as important as having a plan is having a destination in mind. After all, you can’t just head out into the wilderness blindly and hope for the best. You need to have a specific location in mind, one that’s stocked with supplies and is defensible in case of an attack.

So, where should you go when the SHTF? Here are six of the best locations to bug out.

Stargazing

1. A Remote Cabin in the Woods

If you really want to get away from it all, there’s no better place to do it than in a remote cabin in the woods. Not only will you be far away from populated areas, but you’ll also have access to fresh water and wood for fuel. Just make sure that your cabin is well-stocked with supplies before bugging out.

2. An Isolated Farmhouse

Another great option for bugging out is an isolated farmhouse. Not only will you have access to food and water, but you’ll also be able to grow your own food if necessary. And if you have livestock, they can provide you with additional food and income. Just be aware that an isolated farmhouse can be difficult to defend, so make sure you have a good security system in place.

3. A Self-Sustaining Compound

If you’re really serious about prepping, then you might want to consider bugging out to a self-sustaining compound. These compounds are designed to be completely self-sufficient, with everything from solar power to greenhouses for growing food. Of course, compounds like this are usually expensive, so make sure you have the financial resources in place before bugging out.

4. An RV or Travel Trailer

If you don’t want to stay in one place for too long, then bugging out in an RV or travel trailer may be a better option for you. This way, you can keep moving until you find a safe place to settle down. Just make sure that your RV is fully stocked with supplies before hitting the road.

Remote Trailer5. An Isolated Island

If bugging out by land isn’t an option or isn’t feasible for some other reason, then bugging out by sea to an isolated island can be a good option. This option has the added benefit of making it difficult for anyone (or anything) to follow you. The key here is again to make sure that the island is truly isolated and not easy for others to get to. Additionally, you’ll need to make sure that the island has enough resources (e.g., freshwater, food) to sustain you until help arrives or until it’s safe to return home.

6. National Forests

One of the most unexpected places to bug out is a national forest. There are many benefits to bugging out in a national forest, including the abundance of natural resources, the wide open spaces, and the remote locations. National forests are also typically located near major cities, making them ideal for bugging out quickly.

These are just a few of the best places to bug out when the SHTF. When choosing a location, be sure to consider all of your options and choose a spot that meets all of your needs. And remember, being prepared is always the best course of action. So stock up on supplies and know your route before disaster strikes!
