Coping with the side effects of an apocalypse is something Hollywood often overlooks in these types of films, but Aftermath takes a hard look at how a group of people would deal with issues like radiation poisoning, trauma, grief, and a clash of egos.

9. Scorched Earth

Gina Carano of The Mandalorian fame stars in this surprisingly good movie about a bounty hunter (!!) in a post-apocalyptic world. The plot isn’t the best, but the costumes and acting really make this one.

8. Night of the Living Dead HD

The classic shuffling zombie movie that started it all. This updated version is remastered for the original’s 50th anniversary, featuring HD visuals and sound. Definitely worth a watch if you’re a fan of the original or just want to know your zombie roots.

7. Light of My Life

Reminiscent of The Road, this movie stars Casey Affleck as a dad who needs to protect his child after a world-ending pandemic. Not quite as powerful as The Road, but you still get the same feels from watching this one. All the feels.

6. The Blood of Heroes

The game of jugger pits armor-clad post-apocalyptic warriors against each other in an American football style, but with a dog skull. This movie is a cult classic that has even spawned an entire real-life jugger league that plays at Wasteland Weekend every year.

5. Cherry 2000

How does one find love in the distant futuristic wasteland of 2017? The answer is usually something to do with cyborgs or androids. Cherry 2000 is a unique story about finding love in the most unlikely place: real human beings.

4. The Terminator

A cyborg super soldier is sent back in time to eliminate a future resistance leader, but he has to get through mom first.

3. A Quiet Place

Jim from The Office stars in this intense thriller about keeping quiet so monsters don’t eat you. Surprisingly, he does very little looking at the camera with a confused, sarcastic expression in this one. Also, where’s Pam?

2. Bellflower

What would you and your best friend do when the world ends? Build a badass Mad Max car, of course! The star of Bellflower is arguably the 1972 Buick Skylark affectionately known as Medusa, but the rest of the cast does a bang-up job as well. There’s also a scene toward the end that will literally make you gasp. NO SPOILERS.

One of the first movies to capitalize on the 80s retro trend of the last few years, Turbo Kid has become a cult classic featuring quirky main characters, a one-eyed main antagonist, and the soundtrack as dessert.
