The Walking Dead is coming to an end. Wednesday, March 30, 2022, marks the cast’s last day of filming. It was a bittersweet moment. The show has celebrated major milestones and the universe is continuing with numerous spinoffs. But the final day of filming marked an end to an era that started when the series launched on October 31, 2010. By around midnight, when the time changes to March 31, filming will be over.
Norman Reedus Said He Couldn’t Wrap His Mind Around the Show Ending
Christian Serratos, who portrays Rosita, shared a post on her Instagram Story about the show ending. She wrote, “Already miss the woods. I love my Walking Dead Family.”
Greg Nicotero, executive producer, shared a video on Instagram with Norman Reedus. He said, “Here we are,” he said. “Last day,” Reedus added.

“12 years,” Nicotero said. “Love you, love you,” Reedus can be heard telling him. “Thank you for everything. It’s been a real joy. You know what I mean?”
“Remember when we were babies and we started this show?” Nicotero asked.
“I feel like my entire brain is short-circuiting right now,” Reedus commented. “I can’t even wrap my head around this.”
“It’s hard,” Nicotero said. “But 12 hours from now, the world’s gonna be a different place.” (He posted this at about 1:15 p.m. Central, indicating that filming was going to end sometime shortly after midnight or so.)
Hilarie Burton, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s wife, commented: “Love you both!!!!”
One fan replied, “Ah 😭 8 years for me, but still it’s heartbreaking to see the end of one of my most favorite series 💔 Love you all and THANK YOU for all these years 🙏❤️ #TWDFamilyForever”
Another fan wrote, “oh my god Greg!! I am with my eyes full of tears! Thank you for all the fantastic things you have given us these years! thank you for your art and dedication, standing applause for you sir!”

The Walking Dead World signed off poetically, writing: “The last walker has walked. The lights of Alexandria, the Hilltop, Oceanside, and the Commonwealth have gone dim. The last chapter in the book of #TheWalkingDead has been finished.”

Many Spinoffs Are Planned

This may be the end of an era, but it’s not the end of The Walking Dead universe. As we’re previously reported, numerous spinoffs are planned.
Dead in the Water, a spinoff of Fear the Walking Dead, premieres on April 10. (It’s essentially replacing The Walking Dead World Beyond, which aired concurrently with Fear last season.)
Maggie and Negan will star in a new series called Isle of the Dead.
An anthology series called Tales of The Walking Dead is also in the works.
And of course, we’re still waiting on those Rick Grimes movies. And there was mention of a Walking Dead comedy series too.
