The Terminator universe is branching off into its first anime series with veteran animation studio Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Haikyu!!, and Psycho-Pass) and The Batman‘s Mattson Tomlin at the helm.
The animated series is said to “approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts,” Executive Producer Mattson Tomlin said.
“Terminator is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created — and has only grown more relevant to our world over time,” John Derderian, vice president of Japan and anime at Neflix, said in a press release. “The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before. We can’t wait for fans to experience this amazing new chapter in the epic battle between machines and humans.”

“Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart,” Tomlin said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations, and has real guts.”
With the recent success of other post-apocalyptic anime like Attack on Titan, which became the most popular TV show in the U.S. for February, we anticipate this one being a hit as well.
The new series has no announced released date yet, but is expected to be a Netflix exclusive.
