Portable Solar Panel

Amazon

This three cell solar panel has really great reviews on Amazon — 4.5 out of 5 stars. One of the photos in the product listing shows someone with the solar panel draped over their backpack while they’re outside so it can charge items on the go. Other reviewers said it’s best to use this to charge a battery pack and then use the battery pack to charge your phone or other devices. On December 2 one reviewer commented: “I am so impressed with this solar charger. I didn’t expect the speed of charging to be this great. My phone charges from 40% to 80% in 1 hour 15 minutes. Great purchase! I’m looking forward to taking it camping when covid gets under control!”

Note that the listing mentions: “This solar panel charger does NOT store power, you will need a power bank to store power or connecting to your device directly to charge. And USB-A to Lightning Cable is NOT included.”

Faraday Bag

Let’s face it — after 2020, it’s best to be prepared for anything. That includes EMPs, hacking attempts, tracking attempts, and more. The Mission Darkness Non-Window Faraday Bag for Laptops is a great choice and it comes with Prime shipping that will let it arrive before Christmas. If you’re interested in this product but maybe not the laptop bag size, the Mission Darkness Amazon Store has many other versions and sizes, including Faraday phone bags, tablet bags, keyfob bags, larger bags, digital forensic enclosures, dray bags, EMF shielding blankets, hats, and curtains, and more.

Trade a Tin Foil Hat for an EMF Shielding Hat

Trade in your tinfoil hat for a stylish EMF shielding hat, courtesy of the Mission Darkness Amazon Store. You can see all the styles of EMF Shielding hats here. They include baseball caps and beanies. The cap shown in the picture is available here. This particular one arrives after Christmas, but there are lots of styles to choose from.

Nuclear War Survival Skills Book

Every year I suggest this one, including this year. It’s a new edition of Cresson H. Kearny’s book originally published in 1979, updated by Kearny himself in 2001. It comprises years of scientific research conducted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This online listing says you can order the paperback now and it will arrive by Christmas thanks to Prime shipping. You can also order a Kindle version.

Portable Water Filters

Let’s face it – this is one of the most essential must-haves for preppers. And some of these are small enough to fit in a stocking! We recommend the Survivor Filter, pictured above and available with Prime Shipping. The Survivor Filter can be taken apart, cleaned, and reused. The membrane ultrafilter lasts for up to 26,417 gallons and the replaceable carbon filter lasts for up 264 gallons (so by some refills!)

Runner up is the Life Straw, which filters fewer gallons than the Survivor Filter, but is still a great choice. This one still has options before Christmas, but you have to buy the multi-packs.

There’s also the Sawyer Filtration System in multiple styles, or the Katadyn Hiker Microfilter Water Filter.

Toilet Paper

Christmas toilet paper (Amazon)

Maybe this particular gift will be more of a gag gift, but considering there was a very real toilet paper shortage in the semi-apocalypse of 2020, you might want to consider this as a gift. You can even ship them toilet paper from Amazon! Angel Soft anyone? You can even get a little creative and buy Christmas-themed toilet paper. Just fair warning: you might not actually want to USE the themed version. Reviews say it’s pretty rough. Or for even more fun, buy a musical toilet paper holder. You can pre-record a message or sound that automatically plays when it’s used. Get it here in time for Christmas.

Food Rations & Seeds

As we watched grocery stores run out of stock from time to time in 2020, it became more apparent than ever how important having food rations can be. A good brand to get rations from is Mountain House. The Classic Meal Assortment includes 24 servings like Beef Stew, Beef Stroganoff, Granola with Milk, Spaghetti, and Chicken Fried Rice. Visit the Mountain House Store to see all the options, like freeze-dried Spicy Southwest Style Skillet.

Last year, Facebook reader Marcelo Bova also suggested seeds. “Seeds are not taken into account but eventually can be very useful. And some come in pretty containers.” That’s a really great idea! You can see a listing of survival seeds with Prime shipping here. And reader Dean Kammler suggested giving a 20-pound bag of rice. So if you’re low on time, maybe you can throw that under the tree.

Portable Generator & Battery

Rockpals Generator (Amazon)

There are a lot of portable generator batteries out there that can keep you set up to charge devices or small appliances in case of an emergency. See the whole list on Amazon here. Not only could you use it to charge your phone and other essentials in case of an extended power loss, but you can even use it to power a portable freezer/refrigerator if you get the right-sized one. (You’ll just need to do your research.)

A great brand is Rockpals, which offers quite a few varieties, including the 250-Watt Portable Generator that can be connected to a solar panel. (Look for generators that connect to solar panels — that’s important.) This one can be used to charge phones, tablets, TVs, fans, and even CPAP machines. Visit the Rockpals Amazon Store for more great options.

Survival Tips, Tricks & Traps Book

Survival book (Amazon)

Survival Tips, Tricks & Traps is a great book on the fine art of surviving. It’s a brand new book released in April of this year by Wanda and William Priday and published by SaltHeart Publishers. In our review of the book, we wrote: “You have all of your basics like how to build small game traps and rub two sticks together, but you also have some fairly elaborate solutions to real-world emergency situations that you may not find in most survival field guides, such as navigation at sea or how to handle a firearm properly.” Read the review here and get the book on Amazon here.

Zombie Survival Gifts

You never know when zombies will strike, so be ready. The Swiss Safe 3-in-1 Navy Seal Skull Tactical Knife is one option. Or consider a longer survival spear. Believe it or not, you can make the whole thing easier on yourself by purchasing a Zombie Survival Kit as a gift.

Titan Survivor Cord

This cord features multiple strands that, when split, include a fishing line, a waxed jute, and a copper wire.

Wikipedia Offline

Your prepper friends might like this gift best of all. Set up an offline Wikipedia account just for them, so they can survive with all the world’s knowledge at their fingertips. You’ll want to buy a tablet off Amazon for this one, but you don’t need to get a top-of-the-line tablet. Just get one that has enough memory to store Wikipedia. For this to work, you’ll need a tablet like an iPad, a protective case, a portable battery, and a portable solar panel. We wrote a step-by-step for you on how to put it all together right here.
