The Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal, has been announced to play the role of protagonist Joel Miller for HBO’s adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic game The Last of Us. This news comes as we also get word of Game of Thrones‘ Bella Ramsey in the lead role as Ellie in the series.
The Last of Us series is being spearheaded for HBO by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin along with the game’s director Neil Druckmann, who also heads up the game’s development company, Naughty Dog. The show is said to follow the main story of the original game from 2013 rather than the sequel, but that just means there’s room for the series to continue as the game continues. Right?

Both Pascal and Ramsey are Game of Thrones alumni, reuniting with executive producer Cheryl Strauss for this project. Pascal shone as the unpredictable Oberyn Martell while Ramsey brought critical and fan praise for her debut role as Lyanna Mormont in the series. Ramsey’s portrayal was so good, the Lyanna character was extended into seasons 7 and 8.
“I didn’t think it was going to be anything,” Ramsey told Entertainment Weekly in regards to her character being written into two more seasons. “I just thought that I turned up and did it. When [the fan reaction] kicked up it was mad. I didn’t expect it.”
The Last of Us is expected to hit HBO later this year.
