Kirby and the Forgotten Land is now listed as the all-time best-selling game in the Kirby franchise.

With Nintendo’s recent Fiscal Year Ending March 2023 Six Month Earning Release, it is reported that Kirby and the Forgotten Land has sold more than 2.61 million units in the last quarter. That brings the game’s total number of copies sold up to 5.27 million since its launch on March 25, 2022.

This is quite an accomplishment considering the fact that there are over 40 games in the Kirby universe. These include everything from action platformers to racing, puzzle, and pinball games. The previous sales record for a Kirby game was held by Kirby’s Dream Land, according to a report at IGN.

Back in March when the game first launched, it was reported that it sold 380,000 copies in its first week and hit that 4 million mark in fifteen weeks.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is the first fully 3D game in the series. In it, Kirby navigates through a post-apocalyptic world by jumping and sliding his way through obstacles.

According to the game’s Wikipedia page, the game takes place in an abandoned civilization. “One day on Planet Popstar, a dark vortex appears over Dream Land, sucking up everything in its path into an abandoned civilization called the New World,” the entry reads. “Kirby is among those sucked into the vortex and also finds himself in the New World, where he discovers that the Waddle Dees from Dream Land are being kidnapped by the native wildlife, the Beast Pack. Eventually, he finds the destroyed Waddle Dee Town and a chinchilla-like creature called Elfilin, who helped the Waddle Dees settle within Waddle Dee Town. After being rescued from the Beast Pack, Elfilin explains to Kirby that he and the Waddle Dees attempted to fight back but were overwhelmed. Kirby offers to help Elfilin rescue the missing Waddle Dees, and the two set off together.”

Kirby and the Forgotten Land has enjoyed top reviews scores from critics, along with an 85/100 score on Metacritic. It launched in the number one spot in the UK and Japan while enjoying an Excellence Award from Japan Games 2022.

You can pick up the game exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
