Netflix has announced the upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller JUNG_E with a brand new trailer this week.

JUNG_E is the story of an AI researcher who tries to end a catastrophic civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier who also happens to be her mother.

The South Korean film is the latest from Train to Busan and Hellbound creator Yeon Sang-ho. It stars Kim Hyun-joo as JUNG_E; Ryu Kyung-soo as the head of the research institute, Sang-Hoon; and esteemed South Korean actress Kang Soo-yeon as the main character, Seohyun. Sadly, Kang Soo-yeon passed away soon after the filming ended, earlier this year.

Because of the current popularity of artificial intelligence, the proven creativity of director Yeon Sang-ho, and the fact that this is Kang Soon-yeon’s final film, JUNG_E is expected to be a big hit with South Korean sci-fi fans.

The trailer shows off the dystopian feel of the movie with the JUNG_E “AI Combat Warrior” being created and coming to life.

JUNG_E comes to Netflix on January 20, 2023.
