With recent news about Neil Druckmann working on a new IP, Naughty Dog is keeping itself busy with upcoming projects. Fans are eagerly anticipating the studio’s signature storytelling and gameplay innovation, speculating on what groundbreaking experiences the future holds in store.
Naughty Dog Upcoming Projects
In a Tweet (In an X? What do we call them now?) composed by content creator RinoTheBouncer, it was confirmed that 3 new projects are coming for Naughty Dog, mainly The Last of Us related.
The first one is The Last of Us Multiplayer. It stands as the forthcoming multiplayer live-service game developed by Naughty Dog, situated within The Last of Us universe. Originally conceived as a multiplayer mode for The Last of Us 2, this standalone multiplayer title has evolved into an independent project due to the team’s ambitious pursuits and creative expansion. Back in June of 2022, Sony confirmed the existence of the game and released concept art.
Sony had written in their blog “We’re thrilled to share a piece of concept art from our upcoming multiplayer experience, which is an extremely ambitious undertaking. We’re growing our studio significantly to ensure we build this full-scale, standalone game, with its massive scope and immense world, in a way that fans have come to expect from The Last of Us and Naughty Dog.”
The brand new single-player experience probably speaks about The Last of Us part 3, without them speaking about a new IP.
The last announcement would be the new AAA game. A lot of speculations online speak of Savage Starlight. An enduring science fiction rumor has been making rounds online, steadily gaining momentum since the debut of The Last of Us. Throughout the game, Joel and Ellie stumble upon collectible comic books that revolve around an entity known as Savage Starlight. This intellectual property resides within the game’s universe, presenting itself as a futuristic sci-fi adventure series unfolding in the year 2186. In contrast to prior teasers, the Savage Starlight speculation garners distinction due to its striking prominence, almost resembling a deliberate smokescreen designed to deflect focus from alternate conjectures.
It would make a lot of sense that this confirmed new project would be Savage Starlight, and quite frankly, a refreshing new game.
Savage Starlight’s presence has extended to other titles by Naughty Dog, notably finding a place in Uncharted 4 where Cassie Drake’s bedroom boasts a poster of the series during the game’s epilogue. While an official website once existed, its web address lapsed and expired earlier this year.
It’s also rumoured that Savage Starlight could be the sci-fi project Stray’s Cross. As explained on Reddit, this 4-year-old leak could be related to the new IP that was announced.
What do you think of those announcements? Are you skeptical that they will be coming soon? Are you excited for them? A Multiplayer stand-alone would definitely be welcomed!
