Bioware’s Mass Effect series has become one of the most popular and beloved science fiction franchises in video game history. Now, in collaboration with Modiphius Entertainment, the series makes its transition from pixels to the tabletop with the Mass Effect board game titled Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz. The board game will follow the crew of the Normandy, including Shepard, Liara, Garrus, Wrex, and Tali as they investigate the remains of a crashed research cruiser belonging to the notorious terrorist organization Cerberus. Let’s take a look at the details.

Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz

Project Hagalaz is set in the year 2186, during the story of Mass Effect 3. The galaxy is ravaged by the Reapers and their victory against the opposing forces of the Citadel Races seems all but inevitable. The last hope for humanity—for all people in the galaxy—rests in the hands of Commander Shepard and the crew of the Normandy as they prepare an alien superweapon. The Mass Effect board game takes place on the remains of a crashed research cruiser belonging to the notorious terrorist organization Cerberus. Join Commander Shepard as well as Liara, Garrus, Tali, and Wrex as they investigate the wrecked ship and fight against Cerberus agents and something much, much worse.

The Mass Effect board game is a cooperative experience suitable for ages 14 and older and for 1 to 4 players. It uses a card-driven AI system with multiple, branching paths. Miniature fans can rejoice because Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz comes with six beautifully detailed plastic 32mm miniatures of the crew, including a FemShep and MaleShep model. Each campaign will contain between three to five missions that take about an hour each to complete. True to the Mass Effect series, your decisions early in the game can affect outcomes in subsequent missions. Players will be able to tailor the powers and equipment of their squad through the course of the game. Completing loyalty missions and getting to know your crew more personally will unlock unique powers and abilities that will be crucial for finding the secrets of the Cerberus ship and returning with them alive.

Mass Effect: Priority Hagalaz, the board game adaptation set within the rich universe of the Mass Effect series, is slated for release by Asmodee in the latter half of 2024, offering fans and enthusiasts an immersive gaming experience that delves into the narrative depth and strategic complexity of the franchise.
