A new Hulu original film shows what would happen to society if once-friendly androids turned against the humans in the upcoming thriller Mother/Android.

The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Carrie) as a pregnant woman who escapes the android uprising with her boyfriend, Sam (Algee Smith). The couple must travel across dangerous territory to get to Boston so their child can be born in a safe zone. But how exactly do you outrun killing machines that don’t need to sleep, eat, or rest?

Mattson Tomlin wrote and directed the movie after a series of impressive projects including Project Power, Little Fish, and the upcoming The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. While Tomlin worked as a writer on those titles, this will be his first venture into directing.

The trailer shows some stunning visuals, as well as a bit of the backstory on how the androids started out as human companions but something triggered them to turn and kill everyone. “An android rebellion leads to the extinction of human life,” one character states during the trailer.

While the action looks like a zombie apocalypse movie with a robot skin, the glowing blue eyes of the androids are truly nightmare fuel.

Mother/Android releases exclusively on Hulu on December 17, 2021.
