Chainsaw Man premieres on Crunchyroll on October 11 and we already know a lot of details about the anime. Here’s a roundup of some of the new facts that have recently been shared, including how many episodes are going to be in the first season.
The Number of Episodes in Season 1 Has Been Revealed
During MAPPA’s special September 19 Chainsaw Man event, we learned how many episodes are airing in Chainsaw Man’s first season. According to Comicbook.com, the new anime will air 12 episodes in its first season.
MAPPA even retweeted the news when Anilist shared it, so we feel pretty confident about this number.
According to Anilist, Chainsaw Man will have 12 episodes, and Mappa tweeted it as well. If that's the case, then we're going to the Katana Arc with a Reze tease. This could just be the plan for the first cour, so we'll see how things go. pic.twitter.com/COCnlG15na

Each episode will have the same opening theme, we also learned, but there will be a unique ending theme for every new episode. While this is unusual for some animes like Attack on Titan, other animes do tend to mix it up when it comes to the ending songs. However, few have a completely different songs for every episode.
Fans Are Hoping the 12 Episodes Are Just for the First Cour
Chainsaw Man fans have mixed reactions about the 12-episode announcement. They were really hoping for me. In fact, many anime seasons may consist of anywhere from 22 to 26 episodes. So just starting with 12 episodes is a lot less than many had anticipated.
But some fans are hoping this means there will be two cours (or two parts) to the first season, which isn’t unusual for an anime either. If that’s the case, then 12 episodes might just be for cour one, and we’ll get 12 more for the second cour that releases sometime in 2023. To be clear, a second cour has not been announced or even hinted at. This is just what fans are hoping will happen.
For example, in one Reddit thread, one person noted that anime only viewers might be disappointed with where the story leaves off after 12 episodes. But then they noted that Chainsaw Man will get “a super stage at Jump festa in December” and speculated that maybe they’ll announce a second cour at that time.
The MAPPA CEO has previously said that he wants to animate all of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s works (the creator of Chainsaw Man.) And he’s a big fan of Chainsaw Man. So with that in mind, I think we can rest assured that they will do right by the series, including when it comes to the number of episodes that are ultimately in the first season.
Crunchyroll’s official synopsis for the series reads: “Denji is a teenage boy living with a Chainsaw Devil named Pochita. Due to the debt his father left behind, he has been living a rock-bottom life while repaying his debt by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita. One day, Denji is betrayed and killed. As his consciousness fades, he makes a contract with Pochita and gets revived as “Chainsaw Man” — a man with a devil’s heart.”
