Post-Apocalyptic & Dystopian Shows on Crave in 2023
The Last of Us
Of course we had to put HBO’s The Last of us on this list! We’ve covered this hit series and if you’ve missed it, we definitely recommend a binge-watch session.
Twenty years after the end of modern society, Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to sneak a 14-year-old girl named Ellie out of a harsh quarantine zone. What starts out as a small job quickly turns into a hard, heartbreaking journey as they both have to travel across the U.S. and count on each other to stay alive.
We’re All Gonna Die (Even Jay Baruchel)
Docuseries? Sign us up! It’s like the end of the world, but a little more fun. WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE (Even Jay Baruchel) is a smart and funny documentary series about the end of the world. Jay works with top scientists, activists, and other experts to look into world crises that could lead to the end of humanity and find solutions and new technologies that could save us all. Even though it’s scary, the main theme is one of hope.
The Leftovers
This series first aired in 2014. The synopsis reads “In a global cataclysm, “The Sudden Departure,” 140 million people disappeared without a trace. Three years later, residents of Mapleton, N.Y., try to maintain equilibrium when the notion of “normal” no longer applies. Intense grief has divided families and turned faith to cynicism, paranoia and madness, leading some of the traumatized to join the Guilty Remnant, a cultlike group. Kevin Garvey, a beleaguered police chief, must keep peace between townspeople and the cult, a task made tougher with concern about his kids.”
DMZ
An HBO original, this series is about a civil war that breaks out in America, and Manhattan becomes a demilitarized zone. If you do not have access to Crave, you can also watch DMZ through these links.
STATION ELEVEN
Station Eleven has gathered several positive reviews while it air, and with good reason! Playing over 10 episodes, this series is about survivors of a devastating flu who attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what’s been lost.
The Handmaid’s Tale
We have covered so much of The Handmaid’s Tale here at PostApocalyptic Media! An amazing series that should have won more awards, in our opinions. the synopsis reads “Set in a dystopian future, a woman is forced to live as a concubine under a fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship.”
Westworld
Westworld definitely is a fan favorite. Westworld isn’t like most theme parks. Set in a futuristic world, this fantasy park is inhabited by a group of android “hosts” who don’t follow the carefully planned scripts their coders gave them and instead act in strange ways that go far beyond the park.
Raised by Wolves
Even if this one has been canceled, it is absolutely worth watching it. The synopsis for Raised by Wolves reads “After Earth is torn apart by religious differences and the human race teeters on the edge of extinction, an atheistic android architect sends two of his creations to start a peaceful, godless colony on the planet Kepler-22b. Mother and Father attempt to raise human children in this mysterious virgin land – a treacherous and difficult task that’s jeopardized by the arrival of the Mithraic, a deeply devout religious order of surviving humans. As the androids make contact with this zealous and dangerous people, they struggle to control the beliefs of their fiercely self-determining children.”
