If you thought Aunt Lydia died on The Handmaid’s Tale, you’re not alone. Some viewers will be confused when Season 3 begins because they misinterpreted some scenes in Season 2. Read on for more details.
We see Aunt Lydia several times in an official trailer, so she’s definitely alive.

Fans thought she died after the scene with Emily in Episode 13 of Season 2.
And they certainly made it look like Aunt Lydia died, didn’t they?
But Aunt Lydia survived the attack, although she was severely injured. Now she walks with a cane.
Hulu’s been very open about this twist, even including Lydia in multiple promos.
It appears that Aunt Lydia was severely injured but has recovered after some rehabilitation. But she’ll need a cane now, which she’s willing to use to inflict punishment and obedience.
