Watch the New Trailer Below
Here’s the new trailer, with English subtitles.
The trailer begins with Eren appearing to directly access the Constellation aka the Path that connects all the Titans through not just space but also time. Perhaps he’s talking directly to the spirit of the original Founding Titan Ymir? I haven’t read the manga, so that’s just my guess. My guesses are often wrong. 😉
Eren says, “You’ve been waiting all this time, for 2,000 years, for someone…”
This is obviously a reference to the title of the very first episode, which is: “To You, in 2,000 Years.”
By the way, you might be interested in also watching the teaser trailer that NHK released which was NOT released in the U.S. It’s very different from this new trailer. You can see NHK’s teaser trailer here.
If you still need to catch up on Attack on Titan, whether you’re a sub or dub watcher, you can watch all the way to the last episode that aired on Funimation here. (This is an affiliate link.)
Let’s Check Out the Screenshots
OK, let’s check out photos from every major moment in the 30-second trailer.
First, of course, is Eren accessing the Path.
This is very similar to a the teaser photo for the new season, which shows Eren confronting what appears to be the Founding Titan at the path.
Next we have a close-up of Eren, which appears to be right after the last episode ended when Reiner showed up with the rest of the Marley army to fight him. (I keep hoping that Reiner is going to end up siding with the Beast Titan and not fight Eren, but this trailer ended that hope of mine.)
Next we see Gabi, Falco, and a soldier running for their lives. So it looks like Gabbie and Falco get reunited. The last time we saw Gabi, she was with Pieck and Pieck had just revealed that she was not defecting to Eren’s side. Now Gabi is no longer with Pieck, and it looks like Falco hasn’t turned into a Titan yet despite being “activated” by Zeke’s scream.
We get a quick look at the Beast Titan with no context or clue as to what’s happening with him. However, this by itself reveals that Zeke LIVED. When the last half of the season ended, Zeke appeared to be dying and was getting a hallucination/visitation from what appeared to be the Founding Titan Ymir just before a Titan inserted him into its stomach. Now he’s back to his strong, regular form. I’m going to guess this is him and no one ate him because he looks exactly the same. Titans tend to change their appearance slightly when they move on to a new host.
The battle between Reiner and Eren isn’t going well.
You can see lots of hardened Titan spikes in the battlefield, which might be a sign that Eren was using his Warhammer Titan power. It also looks like his arms were hardened just before Reiner spears him. However, as we’ve seen before, Eren can leave his body and then quickly form himself into a Titan again. I can’t possibly imagine Reiner winning this battle.
When the season ended, Hange was going off in search of Levi.
It looks like she found him.
He appears to be badly injured but not dead. However, without having the super-fast healing that Titan hosts have, will he survive? Does he have super-fast healing powers of his own?
There’s also a big focus on Porco Galliard (who now has the Jaw Titan because he ate Ymir) in the trailer. I found this interesting. Porco was soundly defeated in his last battle against Eren and used to break the Warhammer Titan’s shell so Eren could eat her.
A bunch of people are skydiving into Paradis. They are probably with the army from Marley that arrived at the end of Season 4 Episode 16.
We see Pyxis, so it looks like he hasn’t turned into a Titan yet either, despite feeling the effects of Zeke’s scream. We know that Pyxis was one of the many who drank the tainted wine.
Yelena’s reaction to the arrival of the Marley blimps is interesting. I’m not sure how to interpret this. Eren is going to fight them, and I’m assuming Zeke will be fighting them too. So is she just really excited about seeing Zeke win the battle?
It’s not clear when you’re watching the trailer because the moment happens so fast, but YES, Pieck does “eat” Gabi. Obviously she’s not actually consuming her, but just keeping her safe in her jaw for now. The trailer shows her closing her moutn completely on Gabi to protect her. Gabi looks like she feels pretty safe. At some point, as we saw earlier in the trailer, she’s going to be released by Pieck and rejoin Falco.
In Episode 16, we saw Mikasa not wearing Eren’s scarf for the first time, after what Eren said to her. But now we see that she’s still holding it. In Episode 16, Jean told her that Eren might have some type of plan they’re not privy too. I wonder if she’s considering returning to being loyal to Eren? Or does she even have a choice?
Zeke is FINE. Is he activating more Titans here or what?
Reiner is surrounded by smoke from a Titan who’s healing?
Gabi is safe in Pieck’s jaw, observing the world around her falling apart.
Jean is serious. The last time we saw him, he was locked up with Mikasa, Armin, Connie, and others.
That’s Connie right? He’s really upset.
And is this Armin? I actually think it’s Floch, based on how his bangs are falling.
We get a look at Onyankopon.
I feel like Yelena would only look at Zeke with this expression.
And Zeke is next. His eyes are starting to glow, perhaps like he is making contact with the Path again.
I am SO sorry for constantly getting Armin and Yelena mixed up, but I think this is Yelena again and she’s horrified by something.
Another Mikasa shot.
We finally get another shot of Eren and a closeup of his just before the screen fades to red.
I think Armin was the only major character that we didn’t see in this trailer?
The final half of the season premieres on January 9, 2022, so mark your calendars!
