Season 4 Episode 29 (aka Episode 88) doesn’t air until 2023. That’s right — it won’t be back until likely January 2023. Last Sunday was the conclusion of Season 4 Part 2, and now we’re waiting on Season 4 Part 3. If you’re seeing people posting about watching a new episode today, that’s because they’re watching the English dub (which is about a month behind the English subs.)
When the last episode aired in Japan, the NHK TV channel aired a teaser, which was not aired on the U.S. streaming platforms. Here it is below.
The show’s official website provided a writeup about the Season 4 Part 3 announcement. Here’s how Google translated what they said into English:
It was announced that the final version of the TV anime “Attack on Titan” The Final Season will be broadcast on NHK General TV in 2023!
In addition, a teaser visual is also released! In the footsteps of the giant after the rumbling, Mikasa, Armin, Levi and other Survey corps, and Reiner, Falco, and Gabi who work together to stop Eren with them are gathered in this visual! The TV anime “Attack on Titan”, which has continued since 2013, has finally reached its 10th anniversary. Please look forward to 2023!
Season 4 Parts 1 and 2 both premiered in January, so we’re expecting Season 4 Part 3 to also premiere in January 2023. The only reason it might be delayed is if they want the finale to be close to the 10th anniversary of the anime’s first episode, which was in April 2013. If that’s the case, it might release a little later, but not likely by much.
What Will the Next Episode Be Titled?
The most recent episodes of “Attack on Titan” have followed a very strict pattern of animating one chapter in the manga per anime episode, with the episode title matching the manga chapter title. Sometimes they would add a little bit extra that they had skipped in a previous manga chapter, but for the most part, it was most recently one chapter per episode. Because there are only nine manga chapters left (chapters 131-139), we expect this trend to continue in Season 4 Part 3.
With that in mind, Episode 89 is likely going to match the title of Chapter 131 in the manga, which is “The Rumbling.”
