Attack on Titan Episode 87, also known as Season 4 Episode 28, is going to take a little bit longer to air than you might expect. The next English sub, “Dawn of Humanity,” is not airing on Sunday, March 27, like you might expect. Instead, it’s delayed for a week. The details are below, including a countdown timer that is in the second section of this article. (If you’re interested in learning about what was announced about AoT at Anime Japan 2022, check out our story here.)

The Next Episode Airs on Sunday, April 3

Episode 87 is delayed one week and instead of airing this Sunday, it’s airing on Sunday, April 3.

The new English subtitled episode (which also just happens to be the Season 4 Part 2 finale) is delayed because of the Anime Japan event that is happening this weekend. Attack on Titan has a special panel that the voice actors are going to be attending. The event is an hour long and is taking place on Sunday at 17:25 Japan time. But Anime Japan itself is a big event happening all weekend and featuring lots of anime announcements, so this is likely why NHK is simply not airing a new episode in Japan this weekend (and thus, an English subtitled episode won’t be airing either.)

Countdown to the Premiere

Sadly, this means we are going to have to wait longer for the last episode. Even worse, though, is the realization that after Episode 87 airs, we’re going to have a long wait until either Season 4 Part 3 or a movie, whichever ends up being announced.

The English sub of Season 4 Episode 28 (Episode 87) will be dropping at 1:45 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, April 3 (3:45 p.m. Central/4:45 p.m. Eastern/9:45 p.m. UTC) in the United States. We’ve provided a timer from TickCounter embedded below, which is counting down live to next week’s release.

In Japan, a non-subbed version airs on TV on NHK a few hours before it’s available in the U.S. next week, just like it does every week. So of course, on April 3 you’re going to want to avoid spoilers until you can see the finale.

The final episode is 25 minutes long. Some fans had hoped it would be extra long, but it’s only two minutes longer than normal.

The official preview trailer tells for Dawn of Humanity, Episode 87, tells us: “The things seen that day… The things they talked about… The choices made that day… Everything had been willed by him. Next episode: The Dawn of Humanity.”

Interestingly, the Google translation from the official website reads a little differently. It says: “What I saw that day. What we talked about that day. What I chose that day. That’s all he wanted. He hasn’t changed anything.”

Could there be something to how the tenses change in the Google translation versus the Hulu translation? And which one is more reliable? It seems more likely that they’re just trying to be as vague as possible to give us few hints of what to expect. You can watch the trailer in our story here.
