You like post-apocalyptic stuff, right? That’s why you’re here! Well, I’m happy to announce the release of the first official Post Apocalyptic Media short story anthology on Amazon!

This anthology, entitled Through the Remains, is a compilation of stories written by 28 of our winners from the 2022 Post Apocalyptic Media Short Story Contest and compiled by Senior Editor Shawn Schuster (that’s-a me!).

What Types of Stories Are These?

The stories range from modern survival horror to far-future alien sci-fi to robot romance with just about everything else in between. The idea was to give writers the opportunity to express their perfect apocalypse through a wide variety of lenses. Each story falls within 2,000 to 5,000 words, so they’re great for a quick apocalyptic fix.

Included in this monstrous 352-page anthology are stories from our contest’s top winner, Stephen James, who was also interviewed on our podcast. You can also find the top three winners’ stories in this post to give you an idea of the quality you can expect in the complete compilation.

“The man’s knuckles are dirty and covered with little twisting hairs like snakes. I have just enough time to notice a small tattoo on his third finger—an arrow in flight—before his fist slams into the side of my face. Stumbling, my head hits the back of the moving van. I notice the pain in my head before I feel the explosion in my cheek, fist-shaped and spreading; universes are born from condensed pockets of pain like this. I didn’t think it would hurt as much as that. There are a lot of things I got wrong.” — A Handful of Sky by Perdita Stott

The book is the second part of the “Aftermath” series that began with last year’s Through the Aftermath, which was successfully funded through Kickstarter and features 19 stories from 19 different authors in the post-apocalyptic realm. These authors include established favorites like David A. Simpson and Kyla Stone to several writers who can call this book their first stint as a published author.

“It was not an attack from an enemy with electromagnetic pulse weapons that scurried us back to primitive times, as our ancestors had feared and predicted, but a gust of air. A shockwave of compressed air, to be precise, produced by the passing of a big old meteor that didn’t even have the decency to smack into our dreary ball of mud and water and give us the gift of eternal rest.” — The Post-Apocalyptic Chicken Wizard by Marlin Bressi

Through the Remains is available on Amazon as a paperback, ebook, or if you have Kindle Unlimited, it’s included with your subscription.

Shawn is the former Editor-in-Chief at Massively.com, creator of the Aftermath post-apocalyptic immersion event, and author of "AI For All," a guide to navigating this strange new world of artificial intelligence.
