Westworld Season 4 has hit our TV screens and we couldn’t be happier to have our brains twisted in crazy theories once again, after 2 years of waiting. New characters, new plot twists, and of course, new sceneries. Which brings the question: Where was Westworld Season 4 filmed? Let’s take a look at a bit of history behind it.
Where Is Westworld Filmed?
Westworld has historically been filmed in Utah, California, Arizona, and more, according to Wikipedia.
Throughout a 22-day span in August 2014, Los Angeles and the surrounding area, as well as Moab, Utah, were used to film the series’ pilot episode, Variety reported. 22 days for one pilot makes sense given the length of every episode and how intricate the story is. So it all started in California and Utah. Numerous soundstages, backlots at Universal Studios and Warner Bros., the Paramount Ranch in Agoura, the Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita, Big Sky Ranch, the Skirball Cultural Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, and the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood also served as filming locations in California.
Some of the Paramount Ranch sets were damaged by the Woolsey Fire in November 2018, NME reported.

The news about the fire was sad for many fans.

Things remained fairly the same throughout the first three seasons. In order to eventually digitally combine California views with exterior pictures from Utah, green screens were installed around the California sets to obscure contemporary items like parking lots. It’s safe to say that a lot of special effects were used in the making of the series, but who knew that production also merged two entirely different locations together! Visual effects combined with set walls depicting different locations were used. How fascinating.
Oh, and the train? The whole train car set was mounted on the back of a flatbed truck, which was then driven back and forth along Utah State Route 128 to produce the interior sequences, Outside reported (along with Wikipedia.) So if you thought it looked familiar, you may have actually driven there at some point!
What About Season 4?
According to Wikipedia, the fourth season’s filming was put on hold in July 2021 as a result of a COVID-19 case. Production for the fourth season then started up again at the Melody Ranch Studio in Newhall, California, in August 2021. Actor Jeffrey Wright, who plays Bernard Lowe, acknowledged in an interview that season four’s production wrapped up in December 2021, Deadline Hollywood reported. The editing team had been working hard since then to give us what we can see on the screen today.
Look at this cool Temperance shot where some buildings are named after crew and artists that work on the show.
