After all the hype surrounding the Chainsaw Man Anime Expo panel, fans are worried that the release date for the highly-anticipated anime might be delayed. Here’s what we know so far about the release date.
Crunchyroll Said Chainsaw Man Is Releasing in 2022
Back in mid-May (which really wasn’t that long ago), Crunchyroll announced that they would be streaming the Chainsaw Man anime, based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga.
They noted, “Chainsaw Man will be available in Crunchyroll territories worldwide (excluding Asia), with additional dubs for the series to include English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French and German.”
At the time of the announcement, they simply said that Chainsaw Man was releasing in 2022 in the following territories: “North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.”
They also released a short trailer that had scenes from the anime, but no voice cast or dialogue.
Crunchyroll hasn’t announced any updates on the anime’s release date since, and they haven’t said they plan to delay it. It looks like Fall or Winter 2022 is going to see the show’s return. But with little to go on at this point, and not even having a voice cast announced, I would be the release date will be closer to the end of the year, maybe even around December.
It’s an interesting choice, considering that most people believe Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 3 is going to release in December or January also on Crunchyroll. No official announcement has been made about that either, but it would line up with the show’s past Season 4 cour releases. If Crunchyroll doesn’t want both of its major draws airing at the same time, they might release Chainsaw Man earlier, perhaps in October.
Fans Are Concerned the Anime Is Delayed
Still, after what happened (or more accurately, didn’t happen) at the Anime Expo panel, fans are concerned that Crunchyroll is going to announce a release date delay, with the show not returning until 2023.
This is because everyone was super hyped to see a new trailer, a new key visual, and perhaps even an announcement about the voice cast. Instead, nothing concrete was actually shared during the panel. We learned that they are going to be true to the manga and avoid censorship, and that the MAPPA CEO is super excited about the series. So it’s definitely still happening.
But so little information has left fans concerned about a delay.
Here’s a sample of what fans are saying on the Chainsaw Man subreddit.

No trailer, pv or anything REALLY makes me doubt an October release from ChainsawMan
If we don’t get a new trailer within the next month, they said they’re going to really doubt that the anime will be released in October or in 2022 at all.
And u/TurnoverLazy3471 simply wrote: “Delay incoming.”

Redditor GhostsCroak is now convinced the anime won’t be releasing for Fall 2022.

In another thread, u/junahn wrote: “And they are saying ‘perfection’ for pv but I dont get why they are not showing us a single key visual nor the voice actors for the main characters cuz if those are not done too, i am guessing they are not showing us anime till 2023 lol. While the main reason why is bc they have crunchyroll streaming for their anime so they wanted to show in crunchyroll event.”
However, one person commented that Demon Slayer Season 2 didn’t release any concrete information until it actually aired, so fans shouldn’t give up hope yet.
But still, fans are understandably disappointed.
Here’s a sad photo one person shared.
One person replied that they think it’s being delayed until maybe January 2023 at this point.
Others think that Crunchyroll simply wanted the big announcements at their own exp in August, and this isn’t a bad sign about a delay.
So at this point, we’ll have to wait until August for concrete news about Chainsaw Man. Hopefully we’ll get good news then that points to an imminent release date rather than a delay.
