It’s finally here! The launch date for Stray has been announced and the best part is, it’s only a little over a month away.
Along with this new launch date announcement, publisher Annapurna Interactive and developer BlueTwelve Studio have released a brand new gameplay trailer that shows off more of what we can expect in this dystopian cat simulator.
As you might expect from a post-apocalyptic cat game, it looks to have a heavy stealth aspect, reminiscent of other games like Assassin’s Creed, but there’s an intriguing storyline in there, as well.
Playing as the cat, you must solve the mystery of where you came from and how to get back home. Along the way, you join up with a drone companion named B-12 (a throwback to developer BlueTwelve) who will allow you to communicate with the robot inhabitants of the city. You’ll explore abandoned subway tunnels, a rainbow of neon streets throughout the cybercity, and formidable creatures to escape along the way.
Early in the game’s development, when it was first shown off in 2020, the Creative and Game Director for BlueTwelve Studio, known as Viv, wrote in a dev blog: “Most of the team are cat owners as well, giving us all a lot of helpful first-hand references. Cats are always so playful, cute and lovingly annoying that it’s an endless stream of gameplay ideas for us.”
Stray will come to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusively on July 19.
