According to Deadline, Netflix is currently developing a streaming series based on the popular Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West video game franchise.
While the project appears to still be very early in development, other outlets are reporting that Sony did, in fact, confirm the new series during a Sony Business Briefing with PlayStation CEO and President Jim Ryan.
Horizon Zero Dawn released in 2017 from Guerilla Games and Sony Interactive exclusively for the PlayStation 4. The sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, released for both the PlayStation 4 and 5 in February of 2022.
The story of both games follows the main character Aloy, a young huntress who must survive in a post-apocalyptic world filled with mechanized enemies known simply as Machines.
The games have enjoyed overwhelmingly positive reviews, mostly praising them for the gorgeous art style, truly open world, and, of course, the character story arch for Aloy.
Horizon Zero West won Best Original Game two years in a row (2015 and 2016, before it even officially released) at the Game Critics Awards, as well as Best Preview/Vision at Gamescom 2016. It’s since gone on to win everything from Best Role Playing Game to Best Original Video Game Score and just about everything in between.
We’re actually getting #GodOfWar series on Amazon and a #HorizonZeroDawn series for Netflix, this is awesome. Would be amazing if they cast Dave Bautista as #Kratos Kratos for God of War and Rose Leslie as #Aloy for Horizon Zero Dawn #PlayStation

In addition to this Horizon Zero Dawn series confirmation, Sony is also working on nine other game adaptation projects that include other post-apocalyptic franchises like The Last of Us and Twisted Metal on which we’ve previously reported.
There is no release window announced for this project as of yet, and we don’t even know if the Netflix show will be animated or live-action, but we’re looking forward to learning more as it develops.
