Fans of the Eighty-Six anime have had a great time watching the last two episodes after the show finally returned following a really long hiatus. The last two episodes have been among perhaps the best of the entire season, including both cour 1 and cour 2. But where is Episode 24? Is it airing any time soon?
Eighty-Six Ended with Episode 23
Season 1 of Eighty-Six ended last week with Episode 23, “Handler One.” So if you were expecting a new episode on Saturday, March 26, around the same time it typically airs, I’m sorry to disappoint you. There is no new episode on the schedule. In fact, the only thing on Crunchyroll’s schedule related to 86 is that around 12:30 p.m. Eastern, the finale will no longer be locked and will be free to watch for people who don’t have a paid subscription.
It seems kind of unfair to only get two new episodes after waiting about three months for the show to return. But the last two episodes of the season were more than worth the wait. The episodes were phenomenal, and we have nothing but praise for the writers, animators, and everyone involved. You can see our review of the beautifully cathartic Handler One right here.
When Is the Show Returning?
As far as when the show is returning, well that is another question entirely. As of the time of this article’s publication, 86 had not yet been renewed for a second season.
However, considering its popularity, I think there’s a good chance it will get renewed. The finale actually outranked Attack on Titan in a popular poll.

That only will give 86 some good credibility. And light novel sales are doing quite well too. On top of that, Eighty-Six received some pretty big nominations this year in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
Some fans are concerned that we won’t get the show renewed because of how beautifully the season wrapped. And that’s certainly a concern. But light novel readers have assured me that it wrapped exactly like the novels, which have continued. So there’s a lot of story left to tell.
Season 1 only covered Volumes 1-3 of the light novels, and there are 10 novels so far (with the tenth releasing in English in May.) You can read our article here about how to get copies of all those novels yourself if you don’t want to wait.
In the meantime, while there is no big Anime Japan 2022 event connected to 86, there’s a big anniversary event happening in April. Fans hope that we’ll get news about a possible renewal then. The official website tweeted that cast members are going to attend the event, which is taking place on April 10 at Tokyo Dome City Hall.
Cast members who will be present, according to the webpage, include Shoya Chiba (Shinei), Ikumi Hasegawa (Lena), Seiichiro Yamashita (Raiden), Natsumi Fujiwara (Theo), Saori Hayami (Anju), Sayumi Suzushiro (Kurena), Misaki Kuno (Frederica), and Yuya Uchida (Ernst). Also present will be Hitori, Hiroyuki Sawano, Kohta Yamamoto, Mizuki, Laco, Cumi, and Takahashi Honoka.
This sounds like a pretty big event, and we’ll keep you posted right here on this website with details about what’s announced.
