Tales of the Walking Dead, the spin-off anthology series based on The Walking Dead, is moving forward with an official cast announcement this week.

Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Anthony Edwards (ER, Top Gun), Parker Posey (Dazed and Confused, Lost in Space), Jillian Bell (Bob’s Burgers, American Dad), Poppy Liu (Better Call Saul, Hacks), and William J. Simmons (Respect, Last Looks) are the first to be announced for the series’ first episode.

“Anthony, Jillian, Terry, Parker, and Poppy are the first wave of singular talents who will further expand the ‘Walking Dead’ Universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt, and horrifying new realms and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the family, along with these terrific directors,” TWD universe chief content officer Scott M. Gimple said in a statement to Insider.

But that’s not it! “More announcements, more wonderful folks to come,” he added.

With Terry Crews and Jillian Bell, especially, we can’t help but the addition of these comedic actors. Does this mean that Gimple and company will be testing the waters for that rumored TWD comedy series, or does it mean that THIS will be that comedy series? Luckily, we only have a few more months to wait and see.

“We’ve worked hard to create unique, interesting, and unexpected characters for both old and new ‘TWD’ fans, and I’m thrilled that these are the actors who will bring them to life,” Showrunner Channing Powell said. “I can’t wait for you to see the depth, drama, terror, and, yes, humor they bring to the screen.”

In addition to the cast announcement, we also got word that Michael E. Satrazemis will direct three episodes of the new show. Satrazemis has previously directed 17 episodes of The Walking Dead, along with 21 episodes of Fear the Walking Dead.

The 6-episode series will focus on both old and new characters in The Walking Dead universe. While there is no official release date set, it is expected to hit AMC and AMC+ this summer.
