A new post-apocalyptic space drama has been ordered by Syfy from Independence Day writer Dean Devlin’s production company, Electric Entertainment.

The 12-episode series, entitled The Ark, hasn’t named a single cast member yet, but we do know that it will launch production in Serbia beginning in March.

The Ark is set 100 years in the future during a recolonization period for humanity. Several space craft, known as Arks, set off to colonize distant planets, but Ark One runs into a bit of a problem. The ship can no longer sustain life and its leadership is crumbling, but the worst part is that they’re still over a year from their final destination planet.

Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Content at NBCU Entertainment and Streaming “The Ark is a perfect fit for Syfy audiences and we know fans will gravitate to this heart-racing story from Dean Devlin, one of the most accomplished and respected sci-fi writers working today. With the recent success of both Resident Alien and Chucky, the network is home to several of the most creative storytellers working in all of television.”

Devlin will be joined by Stargate SG-1 writer Jonathan Glassner for the project. In addition to both writing for the Stargate movies, the two previously teamed up for The Outpost on the CW and Devlin says that he “can’t think of a better collaborator” to work with on this new series.
