A new documentary aims to honor the Wasteland culture that has been steadily growing over the last 40+ years.

Beyond the Wasteland is a film that shows off the people behind the lifestyle responsible for the best post-apocalyptic costumes, cars, and events from all over the world, including Australia, Italy, France, the US, Germany and Japan.

The documentary celebrates the most hardcore fans like Jim “Tank” Dorsey (whom we’ve had here on this site for interviews and on our podcast) who personifies the Lord Humungus character from the second Mad Max film. Tank is seen doing a modified dumbell fly technique using old tires. Now that’s wasteland!

But the movie is much more than a tribute to the fans. It also showcases the life of original Mad Max actor Bertrand Cadart who played one of the Toecutter’s men, Clunk. After Cadart’s stage IV Leukemia diagnosis, his hope was to visit the Mad Max filming location in Silverton, Australia one last time. And this documentary’s crew made it happen.

“I never thought that one day I would go back to the wasteland,” Cadart says in the film. “Maybe the last thing I do.” Sadly, Bertrand Cadart passed in April of 2020 after filming his part of this documentary.

Umbrella Entertainment, who is releasing the film, describes it best: “Beyond the Wasteland not only celebrates life but the ability to change oneself through passion.”

Beyond the Wasteland is written and directed by Eddie Beyrouthy and co-written by Phil Lambert.

While a concrete release date has not been announced, Beyond the Wasteland is rumored to come out around February of 2022.
