Back in 2016, Sony thought it would be a good idea to release a free-to-play game that combined a Minecraft-like building system with a post-apocalyptic socialist theme and… kids. The Playstation 4 exclusive game suffered through poor ratings and was shut down less than a year later.

But The Tomorrow Children’s original development studio, Q-Games, now aims to bring the game back to life thanks to the recent acquisition of all intellectual rights for the game. The relaunch will begin with a newsletter of sorts called “postcards from the void” that will allow interested fans to follow along as development continues.

“I am now tweaking and re-working parts of the game every week, and I hope everyone follows along and gets involved in this process,” said Dylan Cuthbert, the founder and director of Q-Games. “We plan to make quite a few changes for the better, and give The Tomorrow Children the re-launch it deserves!”

Cuthbert credits the game’s die-hard fans for giving him the confidence to pursue the IP deal. “Our fans are some of the most amazing gamers out there, and every day for the past four years they have kept the dream alive,” Cuthbert stated. “I think the happiest thing about this decision is imagining the enjoyment those fans will feel as they re-enter the crazy post-apocalyptic neo-soviet world of The Tomorrow Children.”

The original game’s features include:

  • Malleable freeform terrain. Use tools to dig holes, build stairs, or just blast the world apart.
  • Large scale multiplayer co-operative play.
  • Construct buildings, turrets, tesla towers, and even potted plants, to personalize your town the way you want it.
  • Fight creatures ranging from tiny spiders in dark caves to enormous marauding Kaiju.
  • Defend your town from attack with rocket launchers, turrets, and tanks!
  • Use Void Powers to instantly create or carve terrain.
  • Explore over 40 surreal landscapes to discover treasure, resources, and mysterious creatures.
  • Experience a richly imagined Neo-Soviet alternative future.
  • Drink Voidka and give your character unique perks.
  • Restore the population of the world!

But the game won’t be a simple relaunch. Cuthbert plans to tweak and re-work parts of the game “for the better” to give the game an update for when it does launch. You can sign up for the Postcards from the Void newsletter here.
