Netflix currently has 42 different post apocalyptic movies you can watch right now with on-demand streaming. Here you’ll find our list of the top ten post apocalyptic movies on Netflix followed by the full list of every movie in the post apocalyptic genre that Netflix has available to stream. We cast a wide net so dystopia, end of the world, alien invasion, mid-apocalypse, survival, nuclear bomb documentaries, and robot uprising – it’s all fair game.

Below you’ll find:

the Top 10 Post Apocalyptic Movies you can watch right now on Netflix followed by

the full list of all the movies in the post apocalyptic genre that Netflix has available.

Intro to the 2022 List

This really is the best possible outcome. Netflix is making their own post-apoc content, and it is superb. It seems their strategy is to slowly replace third-party content with a huge library of their own making. At this pace, it shouldn’t take long. And that is good, because the only content that is safe from being removed is stuff that Netflix has made themselves.

But Netflix is also licensing third-party movies to round out their catalogue. These blockbuster titles like Terminator 2 and The Book of Eli are rarely on the platform for long, so beware that just because it is there today doesn’t mean it will be there forever.

I made this list on February 1, 2022 and I’ll keep it updated all year long, so if you see something good on Netflix that I don’t have; Please leave us a comment below -or- send us a message through email -or- use the web form on our Tips page (whatever floats your boat) so we can add it to the list. And feel free to come back to this page periodically to see a current list until the 2023 list is published.

*This is a USA list. There are minor variations across countries with some options unavailable outside the United States. And we’ve found that some countries have access to even better options in their Netflix catalogue.

Starship Troopers is #1 in the Top 10 Post Apocalyptic Movies on Netflix. Pictured, a soldier with severed legs is dragged to safety.

The bugs attacked Earth first, but humanity is getting ready to strike back.

Starship Troopers is a classic dark post-apocalyptic movie which centers on mankind defending against an alien invasion. We follow several young teens who have chosen to enlist in the military, and receive the benefit of citizenship as a reward.

This movie covers all the bases. A great story. Engaging, believable characters. Enough action to keep it interesting. Enough intrigue to keep you guessing. And gore that gets the point across, but doesn’t try to make you sick.

Denzel’s character Eli is just a guy in the wasteland trying to survive. Or is he?

The mystery surrounding Eli really drives this movie forward. Like a good Fallout game, we tag along as he deals with raiders, trades with the local shopkeep, and engages in some side quests – all on the way to achieving his mysterious goals.

You do not need to see Terminator to enjoy this movie – but it won’t hurt either. Here’s the skinny:

In Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a robot hitman, sent back in time to kill John Connor as a child and cripple the human resistance.

Human resistance? Oh yeah. In the future, robots decide to wipe out humanity and strike the whole world with nukes unprovoked. John Connor leads the resistance afterwards, striking back at the machines.

So anyway, in Terminator 2, Schwarzenegger is back, but this time he’s a hacked robot sent by the resistance to protect John Connor against the newer model of Terminator. Confused yet?

This movie is violent and deep and exciting and a MUST SEE for anyone who loves robo-apocalypse plots.

The trailer of Bird Box is strange. You can’t look at stuff? It really turned me off at first. That was a MISTAKE – because this movie is very good.

Sandra Bullock plays the role of mother trying desperately to survive an apocalypse. Whatever it is that is killing everyone is a major mystery throughout the plot, and the survivors are left playing a guessing game as to how they might survive. Bullock steals the show, playing a mother who puts the well being of her children above all else.

This movie is nothing like Bird Box. Unless you count being made by Netflix, released in 2019, and being about an apocalypse. But that’s it. That is where the similarities end. Oh, and they’re both excellent and you should watch them.

In The Silence, mankind is knocked down a peg on the food chain when a long dormant predatory species is released from a cave. They are blind and hunt by sound, so if you don’t make a sound, you just might live.

What do you get when you place Jason Mamaoa, Keanu Reeves, and Jim Carrey in the wasteland? A damn good movie.

The Bad Batch takes place in a lawless wasteland and boyyyyyy is it dark. Reminiscent of the more cynical PA movies of the 50s and 60s, the anarchy of the wasteland is a dangerous place to be – especially for women.

George Clooney, an isolated scientist on a ruined earth, must set out on a journey to warn one of humanity last surviving spaceships to avoid the planet’s surface.

This is a contemplative movie which revolves around Clooney’s character and his relationship with a young child. It’s a good movie overall, but won’t blow you away with impressive action scenes or visuals.

This is a kid-friendly post apocalyptic movie about a family that is pulling apart until a disaster brings them closer together.

It’s just goofy enough for a kid to enjoy, without going overboard. The voice acting and animation make this one stand out, but the humor is often hit or miss.

    1. I enjoyed this list! As a self-proclaimed post-apocalyptic movie buff, it’s great to see some of my favorites included here. The Road is definitely one of the most thought-provoking and emotionally impactful films on the list, and Mad Max: Fury Road is an absolute adrenaline rush. Looking forward to checking out some of the others on here!

    2. Great list! I completely agree with your top pick, Mad Max: Fury Road. It’s a thrilling and thought-provoking movie that perfectly captures the chaos and desperation of a post-apocalyptic world. I also appreciated the strong female lead and the way the movie explores themes of survival, hope, and redemption. Keep up the good work!
