Broken Roads can best be described as “very Australian.” Of course, that’s certainly not an insult as Australia is known for many wonderful things, including the introduction of the greatest post-apocalyptic warrior ever to exist: Mad Max. But a new trailer from Australia’s Drop Bear Bytes and publisher Team17 shows off what we can expect with this classic isometric RPG when it launches in 2022.
“It’s been 100 years, more or less, since society had its last hurrah,” the world’s most authentic narrator (Jack Charles) explains in the trailer. “We’ve rebuilt. Sometimes better, sometimes worse, with nothing but hard yakka and the sweat off our backs.” What the heck is yakka? Exactly.
Broken Roads features some enticing gameplay mechanics, including a unique morality system based off of a wheel design (similar to Fallen Earth) called the Moral Compass, choices that actually matter in the grand scheme of the game, strategic turn-based combat (as we’ve all come to love in the original Fallout games), and a story narrative that focuses heavily on dialogue and exploration.
This brand new trailer shows off in-game footage of everything from the gorgeous art style based on actual Western Australian locations to NPC interaction choices to dueling kangaroos!
“There’s no good or evil, no right or wrong,” the trailer continues. “Only the path you choose to travel down these broken roads.”
Broken Roads will be available on PC through Steam as well as the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One in 2022.
