Car-maggeddon Tournament Round 2, Battle 5: the Law Master from Judge Dredd vs. Frankenstein’s Monster from Death Race!

Don't even think about sharing this article.

Welcome to Post-Apocalyptic Media’s Car-maggeddon Tournament, where we’ve pitted popular vehicles from various wastelands against one another in a battle to the death!

There are 20 vehicles of different shapes and sizes. Who will win and be crowned the Wasteland Winner?

Note: These vehicles are from movies only and one vehicle per movie. (And no space ships or aircraft)

How will Car-maggeddon work? Each Saturday, we will pitch two vehicles against one another based on six criteria (listed below)!

Reliability/Functionality

Does the car have a tendency to break down? To lose parts? Can you sleep in it?

Offense

Does the vehicle have any weapons or other ways to take out the competition?

Defense

What armor (if any) does it have? How hard would it be for a zombie to get inside it or for someone to take out the driver from outside?

Speed

Can it outrun any threats, or does it just trundle along?

Power

Can it ram its way out of anything holding it back?

Aesthetics

This is basically a tie-breaker. In the battle, which vehicle has a higher “coolness factor” or matches best the wasteland look?

Round 2, Battle 5:

Car-maggeddon Tournament Round 2, Battle 5: The Law Master from Judge Dredd vs. Frankenstein’s Monster from Death Race!

Back in Battle 3, we saw the Law Master run Snowpeircer off the rails and in Battle 8, we witnessed Frankenstein’s Monster destroy the Medusa from Bellflower. As such, the result of this battle could go either way. It’s motorcycle vs. muscle!

As it’s been a while since we saw these two in action, the Law Master is a 650cc motorcycle (custom-built for the film) that seems to be a sort of hybrid between a cruiser and a sportbike, and Frankenstein’s Monster is a 2006 Ford Mustang GT that’s been heavily modified.

The Vehicles:

Just like the battle against Snowpeircer, the Law Master really suffers in the first round. You can’t use a motorcycle for anything other than brief cover and concealment. You can’t sleep in it, it doesn’t come with any storage aside from the various weapons holsters, and it provides no protection from the elements or projectile attacks. The Mustang at least has front seats to hunker down in!

Where the battle really gets interesting is the offensive capabilities. Unlike a lot of the other opponents this round, the Law Master has a chance against its bigger opponent. The motorcycle comes equipped with mounted machine guns (called “bike cannons”), a laser, and stun grenades. Frankenstein’s Monster also has mounted guns, but they are more powerful, being mini-guns capable of firing 3,000 rounds per minute. The car is also equipped with a flamethrower and napalm.

Being newer, you would think the Mustang would win, but don’t be so sure. The Law Master also has one more trick up its sleeve, which is the AI system. The artificial intelligence allows the driver to switch between focusing on driving or using the weapons while the AI covers for them. As such, they can focus all their efforts on aiming or tactics while the AI weaves around obstacles and avoids attacks. A skillful driver and tactician could use the advantages of either vehicle to take out the other.

Were it any other car the bike was up against, I would suggest that the Law Master would win, but Frankenstein’s Monster is designed to withstand attacks. The entire car is covered in reinforced steel plating, which would allow it to turtle up while still firing some of its weapons. But can it withstand against a laser? Given this is futuristic weaponry, I can’t answer that, but in truth, I think in terms of offense, the vehicles are tied.

You would think that speed and power would even each other out, but the motorcycle is not that much faster than the Mustang. Based on an average 650cc motor, a bike with that engine can go 0-60 is 3.54 seconds, and the Mustang is close behind at 4.2. Yet, Frankenstein is laden with all the steel reinforcement, which would slow it considerably. This weight, while reducing its speed, allows it to be a devastating battering ram. If it were to catch the Law Master, the bike would be obliterated.

And last but not least, which vehicle looks more post-apocalyptic? While both vehicles hail from dystopias rather than pure apocalypses, Frankenstein’s Monster would be better able to blend in with the raider crowd. The Law Master tries too hard to impose order rather than embrace the chaos needed to survive in the wasteland.

It was a close fight, but in this instance, the prisoners are escaping the yard, likely singing that well-known line from N.W.A.
