Aftershock is a brand new scripted podcast that tells the story of a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles after the largest earthquake in US History strikes the area. While it’s not a global catastrophe, hundreds of thousands of people are either dead or missing in the ruins of the second largest city in America.

The audio series is written, directed, and stars The Walking Dead’s Sarah Wayne Callie (Lori Grimes) as Cassie Wallace, a woman who strikes out from the rubble to find her lost daughter who is stranded on a mysterious island that appeared during the earthquake.

AftershockThe podcast also stars Stranger Things’ David Harbour as Wayne Sharpe and Negan himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, in an unnamed role.

“I’m an island girl, raised in Hawai’i,” Callies says about the podcast. “And this is my story about what it might look like if a new island appeared – who’d go there and why, what they might be running from, what they might be drawn to? At its heart, it’s a story about forgiveness and second chances.”

While many other film and TV show productions have been postponed or even canceled during the pandemic, Callies remarks that the production of this podcast also had its challenges.

“It’s been wild, making ‘Aftershock’ – recording in the pandemic – everyone gave their whole hearts, it was amazing,” she told Deadline. “That kind of support from actors I’ve worked with my whole career – to come in for basically no money and do such brilliant work to support this thing, that means so much to me, it was deeply moving. ‘Aftershock’ is the first thing I’ve written, directed, produced and starred in, and I’m so grateful to this cast – and the entire creative team from iHeartRadio to Salmira and all of the producers – for bringing this story to life.”

And Jeffrey Dean Morgan agrees. “Aftershock is a labor of love,” he added. “Recording during a pandemic gave us unexpected obstacles but by getting creative and bringing together old friends, we were able to produce an exciting and unique podcast filled with unexpected turns. It was a real pleasure supporting Sarah in this creative adventure and I can’t wait for folks to give it a listen.”

The 10-part series will debut with the first two episodes on iHeartRadio on July 14, followed by one new episode a week. Then on September 15, a roundtable discussion episode will be released.
