After “Milk” left us all shocked with the Janine twist at the end, fans can’t wait to see what’s next on The Handmaid’s Tale. We finally have a description and trailers for Season 5 Episode 5, including a trailer released in Israel that wasn’t publicly released in the U.S.
This article has minor spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 Episode 5.
The New Episode Is Called ‘Chicago’
Chicago has long been known as the frontlines of battle, but now we’re going to delve even more into what’s happening where Gilead and what’s left of the American forces are clashing. The next episode is called “Chicago.”
The synopsis reads: “June seeks out more active rebels, while Janine tries to help her fit in with their new group of survivors.”
Personally, I’m hoping June gets them out of their current scavenger group fast, before Janine gets too attached to the creepy leader.
Hulu’s Trailer
First, here’s the official trailer from Hulu.
It looks like Creepy Steven is still going to be involved in this episode. (Remember when we thought Janine found herself a nice resistance man from the early trailers? We were fooled.) But June knows they are not the group she’s looking for.
Meanwhile, Aunt Lydia is alive and well, more vicious than ever. (Why did June let her live?!)
We also see June and Janine fleeing as planes fly overhead on attack. I’m guessing these must be Gilead forces.
The Israeli Trailer Reveals More
The trailer released in Israel reveals more than the U.S. trailer about the next episode. You can watch the trailer below. If it’s taken down for any reason, you can also watch the trailer on this Facebook link.
Unfortunately, we see Janine beginning to fall for Steven and telling June, “I really like him.” Considering that Steven had made them pay for staying by having sex with him, this is definitely not a good thing. As we shared in our review of last week’s episode, Janine did something similar with Commander Putnam when he was forcing her to do sex acts outside of Gilead’s protocols (which are already horrific enough.) She believed his lies and decided his coercion was actually love, and it ended up causing her to have a mental breakdown. I’m really worried this might be happening again.
The Israeli trailer gives us a better glimpse of what happens when Commander Lawrence addresses the council (which Nick is apparently part of now!) Lawrence is suggesting a ceasefire, and I wonder how that is going to go over with the rest of the council. It also looks like Aunt Lydia is threatening Lawrence that she’s going to release information about him if he doesn’t reinstate her. Ugh. Once again, why did June let her live?
