If you were looking for a new game that will suck you in for hours at a time, boy do we have something in store for you. Black Tower Entertainment has released the free DLC to Against The Moon, a turn-based strategy game set in a post-apocalyptic world. This new chapter is called Moonstorm and is all about the introduction of a new hero, new card spells, new monsters, and new skills amongst other things.

Moonstorm DLC

Against the Moon has you follow a band of heroes as they seek to defend humanity against monsters from the moon. We play as protagonists who live with the last of humanity in an ancient stronghold, and our goal is to defend it. As waves of monsters from the moon mean to destroy the last of earth’s civilization, a new race of Superhumans is created by us. They are called the Ultori, and each of them has its own special powers. In Against The Moon: Moonstorm, we follow young warrior Zoy and her half-mutated friend Mazoon. Both of them want to travel to the center of the moonstorm so they can gather enough resources for the last of humanity to last a while within the stronghold.

A new feature in this DLC is the Moonstorms; events that constantly change the battlefield with new rules to the fight. You must come up with new strategies to defeat your opponents in each combat field and make sure that you do not run out of Luma (your point system to be able to place units on the battlefield) before the end of your turns.

Against the Moon: Moonstorm

Each time a victory is earned, players get the chance to upgrade units or skills, depending on which path they have decided to take on as they progress throughout the game. Certain arcs will have you choose between new skills for your heroes as well, and this is where your brain and tactical decision skills come in. Would you have your hero get more defense during battle, or have them unlock a new attack against certain units or leaders? Every step you take in the game and every choice you make with your units will result in your victory or impending doom.

You will need to sharpen your decision-making skills in how you apply your units on the field; shield your heroes, or create a full-on offensive attack? Upgrade a unit, or cast a spell? The difficulty level was considerably raised in this DLC compared to the base game, and it only gets more and more frustrating…  yet addicting. I found myself getting very discouraged when I would continuously lose certain battles, but somehow the game kept pulling me back in. I had to find a way to beat the maps I travelled in. Whether it was by restarting the whole campaign, or by really digging into upgrading my troops, there had to be an answer. Games like this one can very easily suck you in and, the next thing you know, it’s 2 am and you’ve only got 3 hours of sleep left before you need to get up in the morning.

Oops.

Moonstorm choices

Featuring an amazing soundtrack meant to keep you on edge, the game is also filled with beautiful backgrounds, character concepts with fluid animations and effects that blend in well with the environment. You will fall in love with the dialogue and stories Moonstorm has to offer as you delve deeper into the game.

This DLC offers a brutal difficulty curve but if you’re in for the challenge, you definitely won’t regret it. First time going into the game? Well, so was mine! Start with the base game and you’ll have no worries digging into the DLC.

If you are an achievement hunter, you’ll also be pleasantly surprised; the game offers more than 30 achievements for you to go through. You’ll also be able to play in several languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian, and more.

Against the Moon: Moonstorm had an original release date of March 1st on Steam. However, due to technical difficulties, the developers were forced to postpone the release to April 13th on GOG. It is unclear why the full game was also banned on Steam. Black Tower Entertainment wrote in a steam discussion threadHi, we’ll release Moonstorm DLC on April 13 for everyone on GOG, at the same time we’re still trying to restore our games on Steam. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon enough. Sorry for making you worry.” and that was on April 12th, 2021.
