The post-apocalyptic shooter Sunset Overdrive may enjoy renewed life seven years after launch, according to a new patent and addition to the Insomniac Games team.

According to Twitter user @Nibellion, a new patent was filed by Sony this week, leading to all kinds of juicy speculation for the franchise that began in 2014 when it released exclusively on Xbox One. Four years later, the quirky game launched for Windows, but it never hit the Playstation Network. Until now?

Sony’s patent for the Sunset Overdrive name could mean anything as far-fetched as a sequel or a movie deal, but the most likely scenario is that it’s coming to the PS4 soon.

In addition to the patent, the news of Drew Murray rejoining the Insomniac team is exciting for fans of the game. Murray was the director for the original game back in 2014 and has since gone off to form Perfect Dark studio The Initiative. The return of Murray could definitely indicate a rebirth of the franchise in one way or another.

Sunset Overdrive
has been praised for its unique take on the apocalypse game genre in what it calls the “awesomepocalypse” where the end of the world means a rebirth of creativity. So instead of the usual browns and greys you see in most post-apocalyptic settings, Sunset Overdrive uses bright colors and a fun “punk rock” environment.

Think Sum 41 punk here and not Bad Brains punk.
