If you’re a fan of the cult retro hit movie Turbo Kid, you’ll be excited to hear that a video game version is in the works.
Developer Outerminds claims that the upcoming game will be very Metroidvania-like, playing off of the retro feel of the 2015 Canadian movie. It will be developed in conjunction with the film’s creator (RKSS Films), producer EMA Films, and the Canadian band Le Matos, who worked on the original movie’s soundtrack.
“The game takes place in the distant future of 1997, where The Kid must fend for himself as he crosses the wasteland in search of a friend,” according to a press release. “In keeping with the movie, the game will feature sprawling and diverse environments, comically over-the-top gore, a heartwarming story, and cool BMX tricks, all wrapped up in a throwback package.”
Outerminds is probably best known for its Tuber Simulator game, developed in conjunction with popular YouTuber PewDiePie.
The Turbo Kid game is not expected to release until 2022, but you can keep an eye on its progress by signing up for the newsletter on the game’s official website.
