Lionsgate has been trickling out the big casting news all month for their upcoming movie adaptation of the popular Borderlands franchise, and today we’re excited to see news that Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis will be on board.
Jamie Lee Curtis will be playing the role of Dr. Tannis, an iconic character who was featured in all three of the main Borderland games. Curtis is perhaps best know for her role as Laurie Strode in the iconic 70s and 80s Halloween horror series.
Jack Black will be playing the role of Claptrap, the over-enthusiastic robot that introduces your character to the game in the original Borderlands, and plays a major role throughout the series. The robot character was a break-out star of the franchise, while some would even call it the game’s true mascot. Black is a long-time comedic presence in Hollywood, famous for everything from School of Rock and Nacho Libre to his cult-tastic band Tenacious D.
Black and Curtis join an already star-filled cast that includes Kevin Hart as Roland and Cate Blanchett as Lilith. To top it all off, the story will be written by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin who is already working on another huge post-apocalyptic video game adaptation with HBO’s The Last of Us.
The Borderlands movie has yet to announce an official release date, but considering the fact that it was originally announced a year ago this month, we expect it to drop later this year or early next.
