Cute Aliens

Aliens are a big part of our post-apocalyptic fantasies. Whether it’s co-habitation (Alien Nation), total domination (War of the Worlds), or somewhere in between (District 9), you can’t deny the role our little green friends play in popular culture.

But much like zombies, aliens are turning out to be a very real possibility lately. Just ask Israel’s former space security chief Haim Eshed, who recently claimed that both Israel and the United States are in diplomatic contact with a “galactic federation” of beings from across the universe.

The 87-year-old Eshed served his role as space security chief for nearly 30 years, but is only coming forward with this info now because he claims that it’s the perfect time. “If I had come up with what I’m saying five years ago, I would have been hospitalized,” he told daily Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot. “Today, they’re already talking different. I have nothing to lose. I’ve received my degrees and awards. I am respected in universities abroad, where the trend is also changing.”

AliensWhether or not you believe in alien lifeforms and UFOs, Eshed’s claims are very interesting. He says that there is a secret underground base on Mars that currently houses both American and alien representatives. The goal of this base is to cooperate with the aliens to better research “the fabric of the universe.”

So who else knows about this secret base? Eshed says that not only does President Trump know about them, he was “on the verge” of spilling the beans about their existence — a move that the Galactic Federation halted to prevent mass hysteria, citing the need for humanity to “”evolve and reach a stage where we will… understand what space and spaceships are.” I take this as a confirmation that the aliens read Twitter.

And speaking of Twitter, the social media-verse did not disappoint when this news spread. In true 2020 fashion, memes and jokes covered the internet in record time. We’ll wrap this one up with just a few of the best:

Shawn has been infatuated with the post-apocalyptic genre since he wore out his horribly American-dubbed VHS of the original Mad Max as a child. Shawn is the former Editor-in-Chief at Massively.com, creator of the Aftermath post-apocalyptic immersion event, and author of "AI For All," a guide to navigating this strange new world of artificial intelligence.
He currently resides on top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere with his wife and four children.
