The year is 2049, a space exploration crew is returning to Earth after a trip to a newly discovered habitable moon outside of Jupiter, but ground control is incommunicado due to a global catastrophe. Luckily, a lone scientist in the Arctic is still around to warn the space crew that Earth is not a good place for them to return.
The Midnight Sky is an upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama based on the 2016 best-selling novel Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton. The anticipated Netflix film stars George Clooney as the Arctic researcher, Augustine, while Star Wars Rogue One’s Felicity Jones plays astronaut Sully.
Clooney not only stars in the movie, but he’s also the director and producer, while The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith worked in the film adaptation.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Clooney commented on the strange correlations between our current Earth’s situation and the fabricated Earth of the movie’s apocalypse when they started filming. “There wasn’t the pandemic, and we hadn’t set the whole West Coast on fire. I mean, the picture we show of Earth [in the movie] doesn’t look that much different than the satellite pictures of the West Coast right now.”
Look for The Midnight Sky to hit Netflix in December of this year.
